“Kim and Carrots” by Clara Vulliamy. A recurring feature. One
sentence per page (except for one page which has two short sentences) –
six pages. Kim is growing and needs new clothes but she still fits on
her mother’s lap just fine. The mother is called “Mommy.” 52 words
total.
Mirror by Jean Parker Katz. A poem about looking in the mirror. 4
lines – 1st and 3rd line end in “mirror” and 2nd and 4th line rhyme (see
and Lee). 20 words.
Big and Little (gives byline for art but not text). Big bunny
puts on outdoor big clothes – one piece at a time. Little bunny puts on
the same clothes, only little. At the end, they go for a walk. 8 lines,
2 lines to a page. 53 words total.
Kitty, Please Stay by Elizabeth Woratyla. Poem – page one
describes the kitten, page two asks the kitten not to run away. Rhymes
are kitty/pretty gray/away and you/you. 21 words.
Spider Web anonymous. Poem -- A big spider spins a web to catch
little flies. Rhymes spin/in. 4 lines/17 words.
Just Like Me by Laura Holden. – Nonfiction. Many things grow up –
puppies/dogs, acorns/trees, etc – and babies grow to be big just like
the reader. 4 lines/4 pages. 25 words.
Annady, Mannady – traditional rhyme. Nonsense words. 10 words.
